Born in Naples, in 1959 , he earned his degree in Architecture in 1986, with a thesis entitled, “Sailboat for high-ground regattas. Design for a prototype in composite materials”.

The son of an artist, Roberto’s father was a key figure in the birth and development of Industrial Design in Italy. in ’93 he founded his own studio, along with Filippini and Volpe, where he continued his incessant search for materials and new materials. This resulted in his first design pieces, with a line of furnishings made of cardboard for
3T.

Deeply passionate about the sea, he has always been very interested in nautical design, and in 1995 he started collaborating with Cantiere Gagliotta on the shipyard’s “Bajos 7.5” project. Soon after, the shipyard’s entire production line for the prestigious “Gagliardo” series would carry his signature, from the small 30ft. speedboat to to the ’52, ’44 and ’56-foot yachts.
Mango was also responsible for the refitting of the hulls on many historic sailboats and project designs for other shipyards.
From 2004-2007, he was hired on contract by the Architecture Department at the University of Naples Federico II, for a course entitled, “Nautical Industrial Design”.

In 2008 he held a workshop at the Istituto Superiore of Design, “le stanze sull’acqua” (“rooms above water”).
He alternates building projects, both public and private, with art and design projects that embody his relentless research on form and matter.
A “generalist Architect” and design performer whose works unite creativity and rationality, high-performance research and expertise in materials for a logical and progressive evolution – the building of form.
Materials can no longer conceal any secrets from him; he has shaped and bent iron and laminates, bent wood and plastic, given life to paper, rope, ceramics, for the infinite projects that characterize his more than 30 years of experience.
